A photobook showing leisure, community, and the everyday in a small inner-city area of south Manchester. The work examines different ways in which people form communities, many of which are through leisure. They may be group activities, or shared experience of a more solitary activity. It represents both a specific place and also a type of place. Visually, the work has a consistent, precise appearance. This is achieved by drawing on stylistic approaches of early proponents of colour photography and also using familiar characteristics of vernacular imagery. By presenting everyday places and interests with sustained focus and style, I invite the viewer to engage with both the 'invisible' social content of the everyday and with visual art.
Exhibited at the Filter Photo Festival, Chicago, Sikkema Jenkins & Co. Gallery, New York, the RPS Photography and the Book symposium, Manchester, All Visual Triangle, Durham and a touring photobook project by TENT.
