A six month commission from Manchester Museum to record my response to the renovation of the Living Worlds gallery and associated conservation of animal specimens. The slow and precise manner in which the images were made was complementary to the subject, reflecting the care employed in creating the display. Through these images, one has access to the gallery in forms and at times at which one normally excluded. Certain photographs were made during the evening. Film responds differently during long exposures; its sensitivity across time is not linear, and it accepts certain colours more readily than others. The transformative nature of darkness outside working hours upon the gallery itself is manifest in the images.
